Outline of Annual Research Achievements

極めて高度なレベルに達している冷却原子系の制御技術のなかでも、特に、原子間の相互作用を磁場により任意かつ精密に実時間制御するフェッシュバッハ共鳴法により、様々な可能性が拓かれつつある。本研究では、冷却原子系として極めて大きな質量比を有するエルビウムとイッテルビウム、およびリチウムの超低温原子混合系を実験的に生成し、その特異な性質を実験的に解明することにより、クラスター階層の物理の理解を深化させることを目標とする。特に、まず、重原子と軽原子間の相互作用を磁場により制御するフェッシュバッハ共鳴法を開発し、次に、「普遍的なクラスター状態」としてのエフィモフ3量体を観測しエネルギー構造の解明を行う。これらにより、階層をつなぐ共通物理現象の理解を深めることに貢献する。
この研究目的に向けて、まず、昨年度までに開発した、重いエルビウム原子と軽いリチウム原子、さらにイッテルビウム原子の超低温混合気体を用いて、リチウムおよびエルビウム原子のフェッシュバッハ共鳴を観測した結果を論文としてまとめた。また、このフェッシュバッハ分子の束縛エネルギーを決定するためのラマン分光システムを開発し、実験を開始した。また、混合気体の超低温化を目指して、1550nmの光トラップ光源を導入し、それを用いた光トラップを行い、期待された原子の長寿命化を確認した。さらに、光格子中の原子の3体力についても、フェッシュバッハ共鳴を有する同位体170Ybを用いた占有数分解超高分解能レーザー分光実験を開始した。

Reason

本研究の目的である、階層を横断したエキゾチックな物性現象の解明に向けて、極低温原子集団、特に、巨大な質量比のエルビウムとイッテルビウム、およびリチウムの超低温原子混合系を実験対象として研究を推進した。まず、昨年度までに開発した、重いエルビウム原子と軽いリチウム原子、さらにイッテルビウム原子の超低温混合気体を用いて、リチウムおよびエルビウム原子のフェッシュバッハ共鳴を観測した結果を論文としてまとめた。また、このフェッシュバッハ分子の束縛エネルギーを決定するためのラマン分光システムを開発し、実験を開始した。また、混合気体の超低温化を目指して、1550nmの光トラップ光源を導入し、それを用いた光トラップを行い、期待された原子の長寿命化を確認した。
本研究において研究目的に掲げたテーマは、理論的研究による検討・評価が極めて重要であるため、本新学術領域の東工大の西田氏、東北大の遠藤氏、および領域外の近畿大の段下氏、と密接なる議論を行いながら進めた。原子核で議論されている3体力と同等な力が光格子中の原子に働いている可能性について、領域外の複数の研究者による講演会を定期的に開催し、その理解を深めると同時にフェッシュバッハ共鳴を有する同位体170Ybを用いた占有数分解超高分解能レーザー分光実験を開始した。さらに、共同研究者の西田氏は、同じ電荷を持つ2粒子と反対電荷を持つ1粒子から成る荷電3体系が、離散スケール不変性に従うエフィモフ的な束縛状態を形成することを、ボルン・オッペンハイマー近似を用いて理論的に示した。
このように、大きく研究を前進させる成果を得ることができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

最終年度の今年度は、以下について集中的に研究を進める。
本研究の目的である、階層を横断したエキゾチックな物性現象の解明に向けて、極低温原子集団、特に、巨大な質量比のエルビウムとイッテルビウム、およびリチウムの超低温原子混合系を実験対象として引き続き研究を推進する。まず、昨年度までにおいて開発した、重いエルビウム原子と軽いリチウム原子、さらに重いイッテルビウム原子の量子気体3種混合系の生成用のハイブリッド型オーブンを用いて、より低温・高密度の3種類の混合量子気体の生成を目指す。そして、特にエルビウムのフェルミ同位体についてフェッシュバッハ共鳴を観測し、理論研究者と協同でその起源を明らかにする。それを経て、観測されたフェッシュバッハ共鳴のうち、比較的広い共鳴幅を有するものを選択し、原子ロスの振舞いの磁場依存性を精密に測定し、質量比の大きな角運動量を有するエフィモフ3量体の同定につなげる。また、光格子へ混合系を導入することにより、エフィモフ3量体の次元性に対する効果を実験的に明らかにし、理論的予言と比較する。さらに、光格子中の原子の3体力についても、フェッシュバッハ共鳴を有する同位体170Ybを用いた占有数分解超高分解能レーザー分光実験を完遂し、3体力と2体力の関係を量子シミュレーターにより明らかにする。
本研究において研究目的に掲げたテーマは、理論的研究による検討・評価が極めて重要であるため、研究分担者の、理論研究者である東工大西田氏らと密接なる議論を行いながら進める。
