Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまで、植物が機械刺激を内生発生プログラムに反映し利用している可能性については、ほとんど議論されていない。多くの植物発生研究者が、研究手法の確
立した分子生物学的・遺伝学的研究を行っている状況の中で、植物を対象とした張力測定や張力の人為的なコントロールといった機械刺激を扱う実験手法が確立
されてこなかったことがその要因である。本研究では、植物がもつ2種類の構造システム形成戦略、(1)表皮のタガとしての機能と内部構造の最適化戦略シス
テム、および、(2)重力を含む機械刺激による根系形成の最適化戦略システム、を読み解くことで、機械刺激が植物の形態形成を制御し、力学的構造最適化を図るしくみを明らかにする。
研究項目(1)では、奈良先端大の細川と協働し、領域内のサステナブル構造システム教育研究支援センター(SSSC、奈良先端大)にAFMによる新たな測定系(シロイヌナズナの根の表面を測定する実験系)を立ち上げた。これにより、植物の根の表面の張力測定が可能となった。また、clv3 det3突然変異体について、茎の表面の堅さをAFM等で測定することなどで、表皮がタガとして機能する事を示唆し、論文として報告した。サプレッサー突然変異体について、原因遺伝子の特定を試みつつ、分子遺伝学的解析を進めた。
研究項目(2)ではX線CTスキャンと引っ張り試験機を用いて、また、3Dプリンターを用いてモデルを作成し、根茎が与える植物の地盤への支持機能について調査した。さらに、シロイヌナズナだけでなく、マメ科植物等を新たに用いて、根が成長しつつ地中を伸長できる仕組みについて研究を行った。

以上のように、論文として発表出来るほど、各研究項目についてまとまりがでてきた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究項目(1)について、根の内部発生と表皮との力学的な関係をより詳細に調べるために、イネを用いて根瘤形成に関わる遺伝子の同定をめざす。
研究項目(2)について、コンピューターシミュレーションなどドライな実験系も導入し、根の土壌へ侵入する力学的な仕組みについて、より詳細に解析する。
