Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2020年度は1996年のスーパーカミオカンデ(SK)-I実験開始から2018年6月のSK-IV終了までに取得したスーパーカミオカンデの全大気ニュートリノデータを用いた振動解析を完了させた。この解析では、前年度までに行ってきた中性子同定手法の改良を適用、事象分類の精度を高めることで、データサンプルの質の向上を実現した。その結果、質量階層性について逆階層は71.4%~90.3%の信頼度で棄却、混合角23は45度以下が、また、CPパラメータは最大に破れている3/2πが好まれるという結果が得られたが、まだその信頼度は高くない。今後、T2K実験との共同解析により、さらに精度・信頼度を高めた結果を出すことを目指している。
陽子崩壊については、SKIからIVまでの全データについて、有効体積を従来より20%広げ、さらにこれまで解析していなかった最新のデータも利用することで、450kt・yr分のデータが利用可能となった。この中で発生した陽子の陽電子と中性π粒子、および、μ粒子と中性π粒子に崩壊する事象を探索した。しかし、有意な事象数超過は観測されず、前者については2.4x10^33年、後者については1.6x10^34年という寿命の下限値(90%信頼度)が得られた。(Phys. Rev. D 102, 112011 (2020))。また、有効体積の拡張は行っていないが、酸素中の中性子・反中性子振動探索についても探索を行い、結果を出版した。(Phys. Rev. D 103, 012008 (2021))
2020年度の夏にはSK検出器にガドリニウムを導入することに成功した。光の透過率などにも大きな影響は見られず、また、ガドリニウムによる中性子吸収事象を確認することができた。
ハイパーカミオカンデ用エレクトロニクスおよび光センサーの開発も順調に進んでおり、光センサーについては2020年12月から量産品の納品も開始された。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

陽子崩壊探索においては、1996年から2018年6月までの全データについて、有効体積を拡張した解析を完了、450kt・yrの結果を出版できている。当初計画では、2022年度までのデータで500kt・yrをめざしていたため、既にこの目標はほぼ達成した。今後は2018年度以後のデータを用いることで、500kt・yrを超えた探索を行うほか、ガドリニウムを加えたことで背景事象除去効率も高まることから、有効体積増加以上の感度が実現できると期待される。
大気ニュートリノを用いた解析については、本科研費の期間中に開発した新たな中性子同定および事象分類手法を用い、2018 年までの全データのニュートリノ振動解析が完了しており、ほぼ予定通りである。陽子崩壊と同様に有効体積を拡張、統計精度を高める解析についてもメドがたっており、こちらの解析を急ぐ。
ラドン除去装置については、新たな装置が有効に働くことが確認できた。今後はこれを導入して、スーパーカミオカンデにおいてその性能を確認、低エネルギー事象の背景事象低減を実現する。
ハイパーカミオカンデに向けた研究開発について、光センサーは本研究課題である低ノイズ化などの性能向上を量産でも実現できることが確認され、これも予定通りに量産が開始されている。データ収集システムについては耐圧容器の設計や通信用光ファイバーの試作、同期システムの検証、光センサー読み出し用電子回路の評価試験なども予定通り進んでいる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

陽子崩壊探索については、η粒子に崩壊するモードやK+粒子に崩壊するモードについての解析を行う。また、大気ニュートリノデータ解析についても有効体積を拡張したニュートリノ振動解析結果のまとめを目指す。
スーパーカミオカンデにガドリニウムが投入されたため、これに対応したシミュレーションプログラムや解析用ソフトウェアの改良を継続して実施、中性子測定性能を向上させた
データ解析を開始する。
ハイパーカミオカンデ用エレクトロニクスについては、昨年度までに開発した水中に設置するためのケースの、ここに収納する電荷・時間デジタル変換およびタイミング同期システムの電子回路基板、光電子増倍管用高電圧装置、接続用コネクタやフィードスルーの試作機を製作、統合試験を行うとともに、水中ケースへの組み込みを実施、問題点を洗い出す。また、空中、水中での評価試験を順次開始する。ハイパーカミオカンデ用光電子増倍管の開発については水中での誘爆を防ぐ防爆ケースについて、最終評価試験を実施、設計を確定する。また、光電子増倍管の量産が開始されているが、その性能評価を実施するとともに、読み出し用電子回路との組み合わせた評価も実施する。
