Outline of Research at the Start

領域研究全体の中で当計画研究の位置づけは、中緯度の大気海洋相互作用の担い手としてエアロゾルという物質科学を導入することである。本研究では、西部北太平洋などの下層雲の変動を、海面温度を含む気象場および海洋からのエアロゾル供給などの観点から,他の海域の下層雲との対比を含めて明らかにする。このために、航空機や船舶の現場観測による微物理プロセス(エアロゾルの雲・降水影響など)の解明、客観解析データ・人工衛星データ解析による各海域での雲量や雲水量の動態解明、そして数値モデルによるエアロゾルや海面温度などの下層雲への影響の定量化という統合的な研究を実施する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本計画研究の目的は、西部北太平洋などの下層雲の変動を、海表面温度(SST)を含む気象場および海洋からのエアロゾル供給などの観点から、他の海域の下層雲との対比を含めて明らかにすることである。
観測研究では、2022年夏の航空機観測・船舶観測で用いるためのエアロゾル観測装置を開発・整備した。特に自己参照干渉法を用いた複素散乱振幅測定法(SPES法)の理論的枠組みの一般化に成功するなどの成果が得られた。また海洋地球研究船「みらい」にて2021年2-3月に西部北太平洋におけるエアロゾル微物理パラメータと海塩由来塩素の同時計測を実施した。現在までに得られた洋上・離島での観測値を解析し、アジア 太平洋地域の データ整理に着手した。
数値モデル研究では、海上下層雲と気候モデルにおけるそのパラメタリゼーションについて、専門外の研究者・学生のために基礎知識をレビュー論文としてわかりやすくまとめた。下層雲が亜熱帯高気圧にどのように影響するかを調査し、従来言われてきた下層雲の雲頂冷却が亜熱帯高気圧を強化するという説は、最新のモデルでは支持されないことを示した。気象庁の現業で使用される予定の次期季節予報モデルにおける層積雲スキームの改良により、海面水温と下向き短波放射の関係(フィードバック)が大きく改善されることを示した。また数値気候モデルMIROCにおいて、サブ格子スケールの雲の変動を考慮した補正を降雨過程に導入し、その放射影響を評価した。その結果、世界のモデルに共通する系統誤差の一部を軽減することができた。さらに、全球気候-エアロゾルモデルCAM-ATRASを用いて、東アジア域における人為起源エアロゾルとその放出量の近年(2008年から2016年までの変化)および将来(2030年と2050年まで)の変化が、北太平洋域の雲の放射収支に大きな影響を及ぼすことを示した。

Reason

観測研究では、2021年夏に航空機と船舶による同時観測を計画していた。しかしながら新型コロナウィルスの影響により、航空機や船舶に搭載予定の測定器の整備や機体運航会社の準備が遅れているために、観測を2022年夏に延期することにした。計画の延期は、研究者だけでなく、機体運航会社も含めた関連機関とも調整ずみである。観測内容は基本的に変更ないが、時間的余裕ができたために、一部の装置については計画以上の開発を進めることができつつある。SPES法は自己参照干渉法を用いた複素散乱振幅測定法であるが、その理論式を一般化するとともに装置を最適化するためのプロトコルを開発した。そして標準粒子を用いて、装置の複素散乱振幅測定性能を評価した。この他にも航空機・船舶観測に向けた準備を着実に進めている。雲粒生成に対して最も重要なエアロゾル粒径分布について、既存の船舶観測の結果から観測予定海域におけるデータ整備を進めている。さらに西部太平洋の氷晶核粒子の動態を明らかにするために、計測手法の開発・改良を進めている。
数値モデル研究では、コロナウィルスの影響もなく、計画通りに順調に研究を進めている。気候モデルの雲・エアロゾル過程における取り扱いの敏感性について研究を進めている。温暖化した際の下層雲の変化が安定度指標ECTEIの変化でどの程度説明できるかを、CMIPマルチモデルを使って評価している。また気候場に影響を与える雲について全球気候モデルMIROCにおける表現を改善するとともに、エアロゾルと雲のシームレスなプロセスモデリングを行うために、全球非静力学大気モデルNICAM上でエアロゾル微物理モデルの開発を行っている。さらに、エアロゾルの全球分布の再現性の改善や東アジア・北太平洋域のエアロゾル-放射・雲相互作用の評価などについての多数の論文を出版するなど、研究はおおむね順調に進んでいる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

観測研究では、2022年夏の航空機と船舶による同時観測のための準備を進めていく予定である。このために、複素散乱振幅計測技術を用いた大気海洋中の微粒子測定装置の評価実験を行う。大気中の鉱物ダスト粒子・海洋中の生物粒子・海洋中のプラスチック粒子等について試験を行う。本装置で計測可能な粒径範囲0.2-5μmの未知粒子群について、複素散乱振幅のデータ点群から粒径分布・屈折率・形状を推定するためのデータ解析アルゴリズムを開発する。航空機搭載用のエアロゾル観測装置の準備を行う。また船舶観測の準備、特に海塩粒子向けの光学式粒子計数器の整備を行う。これまでの観測データを解析する。氷晶核粒子の計測は、航空機と船舶の両方で測定予定であるため、その準備に取り組む。特に、比較短いサンプリング時間内に、氷晶核粒子の分析に必要となる量のエアロゾル試料を安定して捕集するためのシステムの準備、設定や手順のマニュアル化を目指す。また、氷晶核粒子の個数-粒径分布を測定するための手法の開発に取り組む。
数値モデル研究では、気候モデルの雲・エアロゾル過程における取り扱いの敏感性に関する知見をまとめ、論文化する。またMIROCやNICAMモデル研究のために行ってきた衛星観測との比較解析をさらに発展させて、開発・改良したモデルを用いて、衛星から得られるエアロゾル・雲とその中緯度における気候影響に関する観測情報を定量的に解釈するアプローチを進めていく。さらに、アジア域から放出・生成される人為起源・自然起源エアロゾルが、北太平洋域のエアロゾル-放射・雲相互作用に及ぼす影響を評価する。また、海洋性エアロゾルに含まれる有機エアロゾルのモデル表現を改良し、それが雲核となり北太平洋域の雲に及ぼす影響を評価する。
