Outline of Research at the Start

本研究計画の対象は軽いダークマターであり,WIMP よりも軽い数10GeV から,ド・ブロイ波長が kpc 程度の天文学的なサイズとなるような極めて軽い質量 (1E-22 eV)にいたるまで,約30桁の質量範囲にわたる。その広大な質量領域に遍在する多様な軽いダークマター候補に関し,その生成から現在に至るまでの進化を包括的に調べ上げることで,謎に包まれたダークマターの正体に迫り,その背後にある新たな物理法則を究明することが本計画研究の目的である。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

宇宙マイクロ波背景放射の偏光データの解析によって、その偏光パターンから宇宙マイクロ波背景放射の偏光面が回転している兆候があることが指摘されていた。山田は、高橋とともに理論的にこの結果を自然に説明するメカニズムとして、アクシオンがダークマターのエネルギーによって質量を得ることで運動を開始する機構を提唱した。この機構によると、宇宙マイクロ波背景放射の偏光に影響を与えるような非常に軽いアクシオンが、ダークマターとも関連していることになり、将来的にダークマターの直接探査実験によって検証されることが期待される。川崎は非常に質量の軽いアクシオンが宇宙初期にオシロンと呼ばれるソリトンを形成し,それが宇宙の構造形成に与える影響を調べ,オシロンの崩壊過程でアクシオンの小スケール揺らぎが減衰し,それによってアクシオンに制限が得られることを明らかにした。高橋は本研究において雇用している殷文氏とともに、非常に軽いアクシオンから構成されるドメインウォールが等方および非等方宇宙複屈折へ寄与することを提唱した。とくに、アクシオンの質量および光子との結合定数の広いパラメター領域において、観測されている程度の回転角を自然に説明することができることを示すことができた。殷は初期宇宙の相転移における新たな軽い暗黒物質の生成機構を提唱した他、ヒッグス混合による暗黒物質の質量起源および軽い暗黒物質の新しい実験方法を提示した。北嶋は宇宙初期におけるアクシオンによるゲージ場生成に着目したこれまでの研究を拡張し、ヒッグス場を新たに導入したモデルの解析を行なった。その結果、新たなヒッグス場が短期間のインフレーションを担うことを発見し、残存モジュライ問題の新たな解決法となることを指摘した。

Reason

宇宙複屈折として知られる宇宙背景輻射の偏光面の回転を示唆する観測結果が発表されたことを受け、それを自然かつ幅広いパラメター領域で説明するシナリオを提唱することができた。またダークマターとアクシオンとの結合を用いたシナリオはPhysical Review Lettersで発表し、プレスリリースを行った。他にも軽いダークマター候補であるアクシオンが形成するノントポロジカルソリトンのダイナミクスなど、優れた研究成果を上げることができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

山田は今後も軽いダークマターをどのように検証するかについての研究を継続する。特にアクシオンダークマターの生成およびその空間分布に関する研究、スピン1をもつダークフォトンがインフレーション中に重力的に生成されてダークマターとなる可能性に関する研究、宇宙の小スケールの構造に関する示唆を与える自己相互作用するダークマターに関する研究を行う。北嶋は軽いダークマターで形成されるソリトンに着目し、その宇宙論的シグナルを明らかにする。特に格子シミュレーションを用いて、ソリトンの衝突過程を解析し、自己相互作用の強さによってどのような差異が生じるか、観測により検証可能かどうかを明らかにする。また、ゆらぎの初期条件からソリトンがどのように形成されるかについても格子シミュレーションにより明らかにする。本研究は研究協力者の殷氏との共同研究として行う。川崎は非常に質量の軽いアクシオンがソリトン(オシロン,アクシオン星)を形成することによる小スケール揺らぎの生成とその宇宙論的効果,特に,CMBや21cm線の影響を調べることによってアクシオンやソリトンの検証の可能性を議論する。高橋は研究を総括するとともに、weak gravity conjectureなど量子重力との無矛盾性の観点から制限されているダークフォトンダークマターに関して、実験探索領域と初期宇宙における生成シナリオに関して、系統的に研究を行う。殷は主にeV付近の質量を持つボゾン暗黒物質に着目し、その探索、生成機構、理論的背景を重点的に研究をおこなっていく予定である。
