Outline of Research at the Start

高密度な2次元共役状態を創り出すための分子集積化法を開発し、表面・界面における分子集合体形成に適用し、高密度共役状態がもたらす軽い電子の新しい電子・光機能を探求する。STMにより配列構造を調べる技術や、2次元大面積稠密集積化技術など、独自に開発した手法を駆使して集積体を構築し、励起子・電荷・スピン・フォノンの次元を含めた状態制御へと展開する。表面・界面で精緻に形成された2次元分子集積体のキャリアドーピングを極め、電子相転移現象の発現だけでなく物理量変換の場として展開する。高密度共役物性評価支援拠点を核とした共同研究を領域内で積極的に推進する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

三重項状態と一重項状態のエネルギーが室温で共存可能なほど近く、紫外可視域の光吸収挙動が三重項状態と一重項状態で大きく異なるジラジカル分子の合成に成功した。トリプチセン骨格をもつこの分子は室温で650 nmの近赤外領域に吸収帯を持つが、この吸収帯の強度は磁化率測定によって求められた一重項状態の占有率に従う温度依存性を示したことから、この吸収は一重項状態に特有の吸収であることが示唆された。量子化学計算からも、この吸収が一重項種にのみ見られるラジカルユニット間の電子交換型の遷移であることが支持された。また、波長選択的に生成した励起一重項種と励起三重項種の過渡吸収を測定し三重項-三重項遷移の方が一重項-一重項遷移より有意に速いことを明らかにした。
p-phenyleneで結合したベルダジル-ニトロニルニトロキシドジラジカルを合成し、X線結晶構造解析および磁気測定によりこの化合物が長距離秩序と励起ギャップを示すS=1反強磁性鎖としてふるまうことを明らかにした。また、[7-8-7]員環が連続的に縮合した化合物を合成し、X線結晶構造解析、温度可変NMR、および理論計算によりこの化合物の構造が大きな非平面性と柔軟性をもつことを明らかにした。
優れた2次元集合化能力をもつ三脚型トリプチセンを柔軟な高分子の側鎖に導入することで、長距離構造秩序が誘起され、機械的特性が劇的に向上することを明らかにした。また高秩序な自己組織化単分子膜(SAM)を与える分子三脚を基盤として、酸化還元活性な分子ユニットを介した単分子接合や、複数の分子三脚を用いた混合SAMの形成に成功した。加えて、カラムナー液晶に特異な柔軟性と配向挙動をもたらす新規お椀型液晶メソゲンを開発した。

Reason

同一の骨格をもつ分子の三重項状態と一重項状態での物性の違いはスピンに由来する磁性の観点では様々な検討がなされてきたが、それ以外の物性の違いについては積極的な検討がなされてこなかった。今回合成に成功した分子では紫外可視域の光吸収挙動が三重項状態と一重項状態で大きく異なることから、他の物性の違いにも興味がもたれ、今後の展開が期待できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、単一分子測定によって、分子集団では統計的な平均でしか観測できない三重項状態と一重項状態の分子物性を、時間によってデジタルに変化する物性として計測することを目指し、それによって開殻系分子が関与するユニークな電子物性を見出すことを目指す。三脚型トリプチセンおよびお椀型液晶メソゲンの自己集合においても新しい集合形態と機能の探索を目指す。
