Outline of Research at the Start

本課題では、大型放射光施設SPring-8から得られる非常に輝度の高い、すなわち大強度のX線を用いて我々の生活に欠かせないデバイスを構成する材料、例えばスマートフォンを構成する電池やカバーガラス、カメラのレンズといった材料の開発を加速させるために、その材料における特徴的な原子の並び方を調べる。そして、コンピューターシミュレーションや情報科学を駆使して、その特徴を明らかにし、材料における原子の並び方をコントロールして新しい材料を作ることに挑戦する。その研究計画における構造計測の部分を担当する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

放射光X線を利用し、超秩序構造の解明を加速するエンジンとして蛍光X線ホログラフィー(XFH)および異常X線散乱(AXS)の計測が可能な複合実験装置の開発および高度化を進めた。とくにAXSにおいてはハイスループット化に取り組んだ。蛍光X線ホログラフィーに関しては、これまでは無機材料を対象としてきたが、金属元素を含む有機物質やタンパク質への応用に取り組んだ。
ガラスの構造モデリングについて、はこれまで困難とされてきたB2O3系ガラスに取り組んだ。また、AXSデータや中性子のデータを併用した元素選択性のある構造データに基づいたモデリングを試みた。さらにBond Valence Sum(BVS)による拘束や第一原理計算を併用したモデリングを試みた。加えて、中性子や電子線を併用し、ガラス、アモルファス構造を多角的に捕らえることを試みた。
これまで永久高密度化ガラスの構造を温度と圧力により操ることに成功したが、さらなる高圧下での試料合成を試みた。
今回、圧力、温度をさらに検討し、世界一密度が高くかつ高密度のシリカ(SiO2)ガラスの合成に成功した。このガラスのX線回折データに現れる第一回折ピーク(First Sharp Diffraction Peak, FSDP)はこれまで報告されたどのガラスよりも鋭いものであることが確認できた。
連携研究についてはA01, A02班と連携し、ガラスやゼオライトのトポロジカル解析を試みた。まもなく論文投稿を行う。

Reason

一番遅れていたAXS計測のハイスループット化に本年度は成功したことから、今後、多くのデータが蓄積されることが期待される。
蛍光X線ホログラフィー計測においては、タンパク質の計測を試みた。タンパク質については、含有される遷移金属が、その価数を変化させることによって機能を発現させることが知られており、価数選択ホログラムの測定も重要な目標の一つである。一方で、ホログラム測定には長時間のX線照射が必要となるため、照射損傷を抑える工夫が必要であった。そのために、試料冷却や照射位置を変えながら計測するシステムを導入し、金属原子周辺の局所構造の情報を得ることができるようになってきた。
これまで困難とされてきたB2O3系ガラスの構造モデリングに今年度は重点的に取り組んだ。数個の原子から構成されるAgクラスターは、触媒やフォトニクスへの応用が期待されている。B2O3ガラスは、このようなAgクラスターを安定に保持できる系として注目されている。純粋なB2O3ガラスは6員環のBoroxol ringを基本構造としており、Agが混在すると一部のBoroxol ringが崩れ、四面体が発現する。したがって、このガラスの構造を理解する上で、Boroxol ring、四面体構造、Agクラスターを考慮する必要がある。本研究では、Ag添加B2O3ガラスの構造モデル構築を目的として、Agの吸収端近傍のX線異常散乱(AXS)測定および高エネルギーX線全散乱測定を実施し、得られた構造因子に逆モンテカルロ(RMC)法を適用し、3次元構造解析に成功した。
電子線回折については、構造情報の空間的な分離を目指し、電子線をサブナノメートルまで絞ることで非晶質構造の局所領域から回折パターンを撮影すること(オングストロームビーム電子回折法)に成功した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本計画研究では残された2年間で以下の3つの課題を遂行する。
【課題1】極微量・微小領域を計測できる実験および解析技術の開発に取り組む。
【課題2】結晶・非晶質中の微量ドーパント周辺や微小領域に形成される「超秩序構造」を精密に観測するためのマルチスケール元素選択構造計測環境の開発を進める。
【課題3】高温・高圧等特別な環境下における様々な材料の「超秩序構造」を原子分解能ホログラフィーおよび多波長X線異常散乱の複合計測で捕らえることに挑戦する。
次年度は、装置の立ち上げはほぼ終了したので、以上の3つの課題を達成するための装置の高度化を行う必要がある。そして、【課題1】に該当する試料班が合成した試料の蛍光X線ホログラフィー実験およびX線異常散乱実験を行う。また、他班との連携をとることになり超秩序構造の概念の確立およびそれに基づいた材料開発を行う。加えて、電子線を用いた極微量・微小領域の計測を行う。さらに、主に酸化物材料において中性子回折実験を行い、中性子に敏感な酸素原子が作る超秩序構造直接観察および材料の物性との関係を明らかにする。蛍光X線ホログラフィー実験においては、特に、マイクロビームX線を用いて多結晶中の結晶粒を狙った測定・解析に取り組む必要がある。【課題2】および【課題3】の高圧に関しては、他班との連携をとりつつ、専用の集光レンズやダイヤモンドアンビルセルを用いた技術開発を行う。昨年度に引き続き標準試料を用いた実験を実施し計測技術の確立に取り組む。さらに、開発した技術を微量ドーパント周辺や微小領域の実験へと展開する必要がある。
