Outline of Research at the Start

我が国で確立された質感学は、これまで質感認知のうち主に意 識的（explicit）な処理過程について探ってきた。本研究では、言語化されない無意識的 (implicit)な質感（深奥質感）の認知について、ヒトの脳のしくみから検討する。まず、瞳孔反応などを手がかりに深奥質感を測定する方法を開発し、認知症を含む脳損傷者や高齢者で深奥質感がどのように変化するかを測定する。その結果を神経画像研究と統合して、深奥質感に関わる神経ネットワークを明らかにする。そのうえで、深奥質感機能の低下によって生じた情動・行動変化の改善に、質感生成や仮想現実など本領域の技術が応用できるかを探る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

質感認知には、物事の性質や状態および受け手の感覚・認知機能が関与する。受け手の質感認知としては、意識される質感認知と、潜在的に処理され意識されない深奥質感がある。本研究では、意識されない深奥質感が、脳損傷患者および高齢者においてどう変化するか、意識される質感や他の認知機能とどう関係するかを知ることを目的としている。さらに、高齢者や認知症を含む多様な人において、どのような質感環境がより適しているかをしる手がかりを得ることを目指している。
ものの質感の一つとして、対象が光輝いて見える明るさや光沢に関する質感がある。グレア錯視は、グラデーションで囲まれた白色領域が、一様な灰色で囲まれた白色領域より明るく輝いて感じられる現象である。グレア錯視では光の強さが変化しなくても縮瞳がみられ、明るさに応じた単純な脳幹経由の対光反射ではなく、大脳からの修飾を受けていると推測される。
今年度もこのグレア錯視による瞳孔反応を計測することにより、意識的判断を要しない質感認知について検討を進めた。認知症者としては正常圧水頭症、アルツハイマー型認知症などの神経変性疾患を対象とし、高齢健常対照群と比較した。その結果、正常圧水頭症患者でグレア錯視に対する瞳孔収縮量が小さく、収縮速度が遅いことが明らかになった。さらに、自覚的な輝き感を定量的に測定する方法を開発し、正常圧水頭症患者に実施した。その結果、予想に反して自覚的な輝き感は対照群と有意な差がないことが分かった。現在、その要因を探ると共に、計測方法の改善を行っている。
絵画や音楽の質感と選好判断についての検討も、若年者を対象に実施した。
また、難治性てんかん患者において術前評価として行われた皮質電気刺激マッピングの臨床データから、質感認知の変化を生じた症例を抽出し、視覚性質感認知と後頭側頭葉の関連を明らかにした。

Reason

認知症者に対する瞳孔反応の測定は順調に進んでおり、年齢をマッチさせた健常高齢者のデータ収集を進めている。また、自覚的な輝き感の測定システムを確立し、実施している。若年者を対象とした絵画や音楽の質感と選好判断についての研究も順調に進んでおり、国際学会での発表も行っている。
以上、全体としては概ね順調に進展していると考えられる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本年度は最終年度となるため、以下を進める。
認知症、健常高齢者において、グレア錯視による瞳孔反応の測定を続けると共に、自覚的な輝き感の測定を行い、両者の関係を解析する。さらに、正常圧水頭症患者において、グレア錯視による瞳孔反応、グレア錯視の自覚的輝き感、うつ／アパシー評価、認知機能の関連を解析し、深奥質感と他の機能との関連を明らかにする。
絵画及び音楽の質感と選好の関係を更に詳細に検討し、深奥質感と選好の関係を明らかにする。
皮質電気刺激マッピングにより質感認知と関連する脳部位の詳細な検討を行う。
これまでの研究結果を統合し、深奥質感認知が加齢や認知機能障害によってどのようどのよするかの解析を進め、今後さらに増加する高齢者や認知症者にとって最適な質感環境について考察する。
