Outline of Research at the Start

主に環太平洋地域の沈み込み帯で観測されるSlow地震活動や火山現象のSlowな破壊現象について、地震学、測地学、地質学および地球化学による学際的な視点から比較研究を行う。世界各地で実施された海底地震・圧力計記録、陸上地震計や歪・傾斜計及びGNSS記録の解析、地質調査、海底掘削試料の分析に基づき、世界の沈み込み帯で共通して観測される地震・火山現象中のSlowとFastの破壊現象を支配する共通の要因を抽出する。SlowとFastの破壊現象を支配する場の普遍性や地域性の比較と理解を通じてSlowとFastの破壊現象の実像解明とモデル化を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

世界各地の海底観測記録の解析を進めた。特にメキシコで発生するスロー地震とそれに伴う地震活動を含む観測データの解析を行なった。スロー地震の活動域の時空間的特徴や構造的特徴を抽出して他地域との比較を進めた。
陸域アナログ研究を推進し、プレート境界深部における微動発生域は、石英脈が濃集した泥質片岩と塩基性片岩がデュープレックス構造を形成することで特徴づけられ、微動発生域における高流体圧の発生は主に沈み込む堆積岩からの脱水であることを明らかにした。
火山噴火の直前現象に着目した研究では、日本国内の活火山において噴火に先行する傾斜変動を自作のアルゴリズムで網羅的に調べた。その結果から約半数の噴火に傾斜変動が先行すること等を見出した。
プレート形状と温度構造の比較研究では、チリ中部~南部において3次元温度構造モデリングを実施し、1960年ヴァルディビア地震(Mw9.5)、2010年マウレ地震(Mw8.8)の震源域付近の温度を推定した。また、チリ海嶺が沈み込んでいる地域を含む領域で3次元温度構造モデリングを実施し、南部火山帯の直下のスラブ内で、多くの脱水が起こっている可能性を指摘した。

Reason

火山の調査では、3000を超える噴火前傾斜変動の開始・終了時刻のカタログが得られており、次のステップである波形の特徴のモデル化に進める段階にある。
当該年度の研究実績は、比較的IFの高い国際誌やオープンアクセス論文を含む複数の論文として公表されている。令和5年度までに分担者や公募研究の代表者さらには、領域の他の班のメンバーとも強固に連携し情報共有を進めてきた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

5つのテーマ(小課題)について、着実に成果が出た。今後、5つのテーマの有機的な連携をより強化して実施し、SlowとFast地震の発生場の普遍性と地域性の検証を進め、SlowからFastに至る破壊現象の実像(実体)の解明を目指す。
日本国内の活火山の噴火前傾斜変動について波形の類似度によるグルーピングとモデル化を進める。傾斜変動の検知手法を連続波形に適用可能なものに改良し、海外の活火山のデータに適用する。プレート境界の岩石の化学分析に基づき、SlowとFast地震の発生の場における流体岩石相互作用の実像や流体の起源・移動過程を明らかにする研究を進める。
さらに、当初予定していたインドネシアのうち、ジャワ沈み込み帯を対象地域とした温度場の研究も進める。
