Outline of Research at the Start

学術変革領域研究(A)「2.5次元物質科学」では、二次元物質の角度を制御した積層、層間ナノ空間での特異構造、面内での異種接合などの「2.5次元」という新たな視点に基づいて、それら特異な系を舞台とした新たな電子/光/フォノン物性とそれがもたらす新機能創発を目標とする。これを実現するため、2.5次元物質の理論設計と物性予測、2.5次元物質の開発、ならびに2.5次元物質の物性探索と機能開拓に取り組み、領域内および領域間の共同研究を通じて、2.5次元物質の学理構築につなげる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

(1) 準周期的構造をもつツイスト3層グラフェンの理論を構築し、格子緩和による超モアレドメイン形成およびそれにトポロジカル電子状態の出現を発見した。また3次元グラファイトのツイスト界面での電気伝導を理論的に計算し、界面局在状態によるファノ共鳴を明らかにした。
(2) Sn版グラフェンであるスタネンとの格子整合性に優れる半導体であるInSb(111)Aを基板としてSnの室温蒸着と加熱処理温度及び時間を最適化することで、原子層厚みのSn超薄膜を成長することに成功した。走査トンネル顕微鏡観察の結果複数の構造が確認されており、今後、結晶構造と電子状態を明らかにした上で、他の二次元材料との積層を試みる。
(3)新奇物性を示す2.5次元物質の開拓:引き続き van der Waals (vdW) 層状物質の高品質単結晶開発を推進しつつ、それらを活用した量子物性の開拓・解明にも注力した。複数の物質系を対象として、vdW ユニットの積層様式が引き起こす物性変化の実験実証に成功し、第一原理計算とも連携しながら物性・機能の設計指針や学理構築への道筋をつけることができた。
(4) 2.5次元物質における歪み効果の解明とデバイス作製 : ヘテロ構造において、歪み効果とモアレパターン変調の相関を顕微観察・分光測定及びシミュレーションによって解明を行った。また、歪みによるモアレバンドの変化も理論計算により明らかにした。加えて、領域内共同研究により光電子分光を用いた歪み効果とバンド構造変化を直接評価する準備も行った。これらのヘテロ・モアレ構造に対し、発光デバイスの作製を行い、歪み効果を受けた電流励起発光の観測にも成功した。

Reason

これまで理論的な取り扱いが難しいとされてきた3層以上のモアレ系を系統的に取り扱うことのできる理論を世界で初めて提唱し、複数層モアレ系の理論解析への道を開いた。また領域内の共同研究により、多様な物質の作成及び物性探索に成功し、2.5次元系の分野の広がりに大きく貢献した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

(1) 2.5次元物質の物性理論の構築(越野):昨年度の成果であるモアレ多層系の一般理論を応用し、特に重要性の高い二次元物質である遷移金属カルコゲナイド系のモアレ3層系の物性予測に挑む。また3次元ツイスト系の理論を応用し、層状超伝導物質のツイスト界面におけるジョセフソン接合の研究を推進する。
(2) 3次元物質+2次元物質=2.5次元物質の創製と新奇構造・物性開拓(高村):非平衡プロセスを介して三次元物質である単結晶基板上にのみ形成しうる準安定二次元物質(2.5次元物質)の成長を行い、A03班と連携して構造解析、物性測定を行う。本年度は、昨年度に引き続き、基板上二次元物質のインターカレーションやドーピングの試みを進めるとともに、スズ版グラフェンであるスタネン等新奇単一組成原子膜の成長と電子状態評価に取り組む。
(3)3次元から迫る2.5次元物質の量子物性開拓:vdW単結晶を主軸として、2.5次元物質の量子物性開拓に3次元から迫る。vdWへき開によって得られる高品質微小単結晶薄片を用いた2.5次元積層構造体のデバイス特性評価や、vdWギャップへの原子挿入・脱離といった物質修飾技術も活用した量子物性の設計・制御などにも研究を展開してゆく。
(4) 2.5次元物質のモアレ制御による機能性デバイス (蒲) : 2.5次元ヘテロ構造に生じるモアレパターンに起因した物性評価を行い、量子デバ イスの創製を行う。特に、電解質を用いたデバイス構造を前年度構築した低温顕微分光/伝導測定系に導入し、モアレ構造制御に起因した電子 相制御及び発光・受光機能の創出を試みる。また、A03班と連携しながら、角度分解光電子分光による2.5次元モアレバンドの直接観測・評価も 行う。さらに、A02班と協力して特異な2.5次元物質/構造の電気伝導・光物性測定とその機能性デバイスへの展開も狙う。
