Outline of Research at the Start

植物では、一つの花の中に雌と雄の生殖器官である雌しべと雄しべが同居した「両性花システム」をもつものが多い。そのため、自殖(自家生殖)と他殖(他家生殖)の両者がおこりうる。19世紀のチャールズ・ダーウィンの先駆的な研究以来、植物が自殖と他殖のバランスを頻繁に進化させてきたことが明らかになってきた。本研究では、進化学、ゲノム学、分子遺伝学や機械学習を学際的に融合させ、自殖と他殖のバランスを制御する分子基盤を解明することを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

植物では、多くの種が一つの花の中に雌と雄の生殖器官が同居した「両性花システム」を持つため、自殖(自家生殖)と他殖(他家生殖)の両者がおこりうる。19世紀のチャールズ・ダーウィンの研究以来、植物が自殖と他殖のバランスを頻繁に進化させたことが明らかになってきた。本研究では、進化学、ゲノム学、分子遺伝学や機械学習を学際的に融合させ、自殖と他殖のバランスを制御する分子基盤を解明することを目指す。
初年度としてまず、赤木班と共同で、栽培植物のゲノム倍数化と、その生殖形質への影響について総説を執筆した。特に性決定や自家不和合性など、本領域に関わる最近の発展と将来の方向性を論じた(Akagi, Jung, Masuda, Shimizu, Curr Opin Plant Biol 2022)。ゲノム倍数化による野生植物の頑健性への貢献についての総説も執筆した (Shimizu, Curr Opin Plant Biol 2022)。また、今後の解析に有効な手法として、深層学習による画像解析ソフト(Sun et al. Front Plant Sci, 2023)や、空間構造を取り入れて頻度依存選択を検出する新規のゲノムワイド関連解析手法を開発し、植物の生殖形質に適用した(Sato et al. Evolution 2023)。こうした手法などを活用して、学際的に植物生殖形質進化の分子基盤を解明していく。
