Outline of Final Research Achievements

Polymer nanoparticles as functional in-cell devices were prepared using a cytocompatible phospholipid polymer. We have found that the polymeric nanoparticles embedding quantum dots (QDs) covered with the phospholipid polymers showed resistance to cellular uptake. On the other hand, when an arginine octapeptide (R8), which was one of the cell penetrating peptide, was immobilized at the surface of the nanoparticles, they could penetrate the membrane of HeLa cells effectively. We also investigated the surface functionalization of the nanoparticles and transportation of the nanoparticle into cells. the QDs covered with the pH-responsible phospholipid polymer could be obtained. The pH responsibility reflected inner circumstances of cells. Thus, we could determine the location and local pH circumstances using the QD/phospholipid polymer nanoparticles. The results provide useful information for delivering the bioactive reagents into cells.
