Research Abstract |
This project conducts a field survey in South Asia in order to (i) analyse changes in regional eco-system due to introduction of irrigation schemes, (ii) determine the predominant factors required to re-establish ecological balance of the study area, and (iii) elaborate the conceptual framework for "environmental management" as an academic field. This is a part of a four years long project, which commenced in 1987. A field suvey was conducted in 1987 and a workshop was organized in 1988 to summerise findings of the said survey. Theoretical framework of the entire project was determined in 1987. This project aims at (i) analysing the changes in the study area occurred in last two years, namely after conducting the initial research, and (ii) conducting a comparative study on the findings both in 1987 and 1989 to elaborate the above mentioned conceptual framework. A field survey was conducted within the framework of the project on 1 August to 20 September 1990 at (i) Egapullmallu Villeage, Tamil Nadai District, India, and (ii) Mohana Villeage, Terai Plain, Nepal.
