1. Several study themes that relate to the experiences and participate types exhibition "Tan-ken-kan" of our museum were selected to advance this research. A theory concerned in a ecology and life cycle is included in fundamental concept of each theme. The study themes were as follows.
(1) The life of the insect. (2) The animals in soil. (3) The life of the spider. (4) Four seasons of the familiar forests. (5) Four seasons of the beech forests. (6) The kinds of the mushroom and the mold.
2. In each theme, an observation set (a small diorama that expressed ecosystem and life cycle by combining specimens and models), supplementary teaching materials such as substance specimen and audiovisual aids were prepared as teaching materials. These teaching materials were composed of a set in consideration of a developmental stage of children to be utilized effectively.
3. The curriculums that apply to each developmental stage of children were developed for instructors. These were effective to encourage individual and self study abilities, and connected organically the study and explanatory sheets and the teaching materials.
4. During to the preparation of supplementary teaching materials, fine specimens of insects, spiders and mushrooms were made by adoption of vacuum freezedry method. Of them, especially fragile and rare specimens were protected by enclosing into plastics. The plastic enclosing methods to prepare the specimens were newly developed in this study.
5. The teaching materials and tools were stored in the study room of our museum, and effective application was stimulated by a free selection of learners. Guidance systems were established through the participations of volunteers to actual guidance work for children.
6. The interest and curiosity of childlen for study were clearly improved by the using of the observation sets and sub-stance specimens. To use the teaching materials in good condition, usual maintenances to it were strongly required.
