Research Abstract |
We have given attention to oligosaccharide chains as the key parti, cipants in cell-cell recognitions of various biological events. Well-defined polymers having oligossaccharide chains should serve as cellーspecific biomedical materials. Following six types of polymers having galactose, mannose, N-aceylglucosamine, and glucose residues as recognition markers have been synthesized. (1) Oligomers of lactose-substituted styrene monomer. Via radical telomerization. (2) Homopolymer of N-acetylchito-oligosaccharide substituted styrene. Via redical polymerizaton of macromonomer. (3) Star-type graft copolymers. Via radical polymerization of macromer from sugar-carrying methyl=methacrylate monomer. (4) Comb-shaped branched polysaccharides, 4-O-(alpha-D-mannopyranosyl)-(1->6)-alpha-D-mannopyranan. Via ring-opening polymerization of anhydro disaccharide derivatives. (5) (1->6)-beta-D-Galactopyranan. Via steric control by neighboring-group participation in ring-opening polymerization. (6) Oligosaccharide-carrying polypeptides. Via polymeric reaction of poly (L-glutamic acid).
