1. We have tried again to think over two points of literature and arts campaign of liberated area : one which has an area distinction called literature and arts campaign of a mass character is the War of resistance against Japan, and the other is provided for its direction when being expressed clearly its guide as Mao ze-dong's speech into a forum on literature and arts in Yan-an'. Concrete speaking, that is to further experience the pathtrod by the Service mission of battle-field on Xi-bei has traced and to investigate the marks of literary occupation what Xiao-jun, Zou ri-bo, and other authors might have left.
2. When we consider 'Mao ze-dong's speech into forum on literature and arts in Yan-an' an index and examine the state of literary art and its campaign between liberated area and the area under KMT rule the War of resistance against Japan, He qi-fang, Who was a writer and a poet, and who at the same time come and went between both areas as an organizer of literature and arts campaign has played a very important role. Paying special attention to this point, we have made efforts to investigate the actual condition of the exchanges between both areas and to collect materials.
3. The investigation committee for the provinces of Shaanxi and Shanxi is composed of 4 Japanese (including 1 cooperator) and 1 Chinese. As we deepen the research into each thesis, we have worked together to clarify the reason for the existence of the Chinese literature of the 40s.
4. This is the final year of the three years originally set for our joint research. The outline of our each thesis will be presented, discussions will be held, and views will be exchanged and organized. We are now planning to publish 'Monographs of Chinese Literature in the 40's'(the provisional title ; the probable date of publication is Feb. 1994). These monographs are compiled from research on the work in the 40s of Xia-yan, He qi-fang, Ding-ling, Mao-dun, Hu-feng, and Shen cong-wen.
