Research Abstract |
We have been paying only little attention to motion picture as research materials in comparison with written or printed sources. It has been caused by some difficulties that we obliged to encounter when we took an interest in using cine-films as research materials. Cine-films has been too troublesome to get them at need and too awkward or too expensive to use them easily. But now is the time for us to find the irreplaceable merits in the motion pictures and to put them in righyplace of our research. We have been gaining more firm berief of this, since getting started to our project. Through the process, of research in 2 years, we heve got the following results. 1. At first we had visited a great many film-libraries and cine-production of the whole country, and searched eagerly for motion-pictures that was out of use, but full of histrical value. Consequently we could find 500 films, many of that had considered to have no chance of review, and could got copies of them. 2. After then, we had made the investigation of our "collections", and tried to gateher the information as many as possible, especialy the continuity, camera angle, motif, naration, music, extression & gestures, manners & customs, atomosphere, signs and so on. For the effective fixing (record) to paper, we made development of 2 techniques : one is"the list of scenes", and another is"Keyscene". By using 2 techniques, we can catch the outline of each motion-picture precisely and quickly. 3. Finally, we had tried to make list of our"collections". We believe this list will be useful for informing about them and encouraging to apply for research or education.
