Research Abstract |
In the recent years, the number of pollen induced allergic patients have increased. The reason for this could not be explained only by the increasing amount of cedar pollen antigen. Some environmental factors might cause the increase of disease. The present project was conducted to elucidate the factors. The allergic conjunctivitis experimentally induced by cedar pollen was apparently aggravated by extremely low concentration of organophosphorous pesticides, organochlorine herbicide, cigarette smoke, trihalomethane, p-dichlorobenzene, food preservatives and food colors such as red No.3 and turtoladin. The aggravating effects of these chemicals were rather weak in higher concentration. Exposure to cathode ray tube of visual detector terminal also aggravated the allergic conjunctivitis. Environmental chemicals as well as electromagnetic waves seemed to derange our immunological condition.
