Research Abstract |
The first part of this project was completed and were published in two volumes in 1991 and 92. The second part of it, the glossary, which had been postponed till now, has been completed at last in two volumes (the one is 78 pages, and the other 61 pages, both in German), one year later than expected. The process of making glossary is as follows: First, foreign words such as Hebrew, Aramaic, Slavic, or other difficult words in the texts were chosen by Ueda. Then the assistant in Canada (nativespeaker of Yiddish) made notes for them. Lastly Ueda put the annotated words in the wordprocessor. Meanwhile the process of inquiries between Ueda and the assistant were repeated several times. Germanists in the world will be able to read the transcribed Yiddish texts which Kafka saw with these glossaries. Now new analysis about the relation of Kafka and the Yiddish theater will come out from my work.
