Research Abstract |
A BAROTROPIC MODEL OF THE NORTH PACIFIC HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. SEA SURFACE WIND DATA WHICH ARE SHIP OBSERVATION DATA, SATELLITE DATA AND MODEL ANALYSIS DATA HAS BEEN ANALYZED. BOTH SATELLITE WIND DATA, GEOSAT/ALT AND DMSP/SSMI, ARE QUITE SIMILAR. ON THE OTHER HAND, SHIP OBSERVATION WINDS ARE STRONGER THAN SATELLITE WINDS, WHILE ANALYSIS WINDS ARE WEAKER THAN SATELLITE WINDS. THE BAROTROPIC MODEL HAS BEEN DRIVED BY THOSE WINDS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE KUROSHIO TRANSPORT IN THE BAROTROPIC MODEL LARGELY VARIES DEPENDING ON WHAT WIND DRIVES THE MODEL. WE EXAMINED TWO METHODS ESTIMATING SURFACE VELOCITY FROM TIKE SERIES OF SST IMAGES. WE SHOWED THAT WE CAN EXACTLY ESTIMATE THE CROSS-ITHOTHERM COMPONENT BY AN INVERSE METHOD. WITH THE ADDITION OF MINIMIZATION OF DIVERGENCE, THE MODEL PRODUCES THE ALONG-ISOTHERM COMPONENT OF THE PERTURBATION VELOCITY. CONSTRUCTION OF THE OPTIMUM WIND DATA SET IS DONE BY APPLYING THE SUCCESSIVE CORRECTION METHOD TO SATELLITE WIND DATA. OBTAINED WIND SPEEDS REMARKABLY AGREE WITH WIND SPEEDS MEASURED BY OCEAN BUOYS.
