Research Abstract

1. Methods
Fragments of liver and total brain which were taken out in the medio-legal autopsy were fixed with 10% formain solution. After Azan and oil-red 0 stains were carried out, microscopic photographs of liver were taken. Photographs of cerebral frontal sections at the level of Genu of corpus callosum, Mammillaly bodies and Parieto-occipital sulci were done. Using with image analysing system, degree of liver fibrosis or adiposis were determined and areas of cerebral gray seatter and white matter were measured.
2. Results
Fiber component/total area was 0.72-3.91%(average 2.55)in the 5 normal cases, 1.68-4.63%(3.36)in the 7 cases of fatty liver, 6.44-30.06%(13.89)in the 9 cases of fatty liver with liver cirrhosis and 7.34-28.76%(18.11)in the 6 cases of liver cirrhosis.
Fat componemt/total area were 9.29-49.62%(24.89)in the 5 cases of fatty liver.
In the 15 normal cases, average of cerebral gray matter/total area was 0.552 in the frontal lobe. The one in the parietal lobe was 0.501, in the temporal lobe 0.641 and in the occipital lobe 0.735. Average of white matter/total area was 0.448 in the frontal lobe. The one in the parietal lobe was 0.499, in the temporal lobe 0.350 and in the occipital lobe 0.246.
In the 6 brains of alcoholics, average of gray matter/total area was 0.552 in the frontal lobe. The one in the parietal lobe was 0.535, in the temporal lobe 0.690 and in the occipital lobe 0.672. Average of white matter/total area was 0.478 in the frontal lobe. The one in the parietal lobe was 0.465, in the temporal lobe 0.672 and in the occipital lobe 0.328.
In alcoholics atrophy of gray matter in the frontal and occipital lobe were observed and the one of white matter were observed in the parietal and temporal lobe.
