Research Abstract

The aim of the project is to investigate nuclear and particle physics at TRIUMF/KAON.
The following work has already been carried out :
1. Studies regarding the storage of high-intensity proton beams at LAMPF/PSR and the Siberian-snake at Indiana Univ. Discussions concerning the slow extraction and storage of high-intensity proton beams.
2. An investigation of problems regarding kaon rare-decay experiments at higher intensities than available at present by two orders of magnitude. Studies of high-efficiency photon detectors.
3. An investigation of neutrino physics, especially that using in-flight decay neutrinos, compared with dump neutrinos. New instrumentation concerning the detection of neutrino reactions.
4. Discussions on hypernuclear physics and the design study of a high-resolution beam channel. Studies concerning neutral particle detectors, fibre scintillators and a new gas chamber tolerable to high intensities.
5. Discussions concerning physics using antiprotons above 2 GeV/c, especially in searches for exotics and nuclear-bound charmoniums.
