Research Abstract |
Pyrido[1', 2' : 1, 2]imidazo[4, 5-b]quinoxaline (PIQ) derivatives which were synthesized from 2-amino-3-chloroquinoxaline (ACQ) and pyridines were examined with fluorescence and cyclic voltammetry in organic solvent. 3-Substituted PIQ were obtained from ACQ and 4-substituted pyridines (-C_6H_5, -COCH_3, -COOC_2H_5, alkyl) in a yield (20-70 %). 4-Substituted PIQ were obtained from ACQ and 3-substituted pyridines (-CH_3, -CH_2C_6H_5, -C_6H_5, -COOC_2H_5, -CH_2OH ), but 2-substituted PIQ were obtained from 3-substituted pyridines (-COC_6H_5, -COOC_6H_5) in a low yield. 6-Substituted ACQ (-NO_2, -COC_6H_5) or 6,7-disubstituted ACQ (-Cl , -CH_3) reacted with pyridine to give the corresponding 9-substituted PIQ or 8, 9-disubstituted PIQ. The solutions of PIQ show intense fluorescence spectra at 450 and 600 nm and about 0.4 quantum yield. The cyclic voltammetry of PIQ showed reversible one or two redox couples between 0 and- 1.5 volts. It is very interesting that 9-NO_2PIQ exhibits electroluminescence (EL) at the rather long life, but the EL intensity is rather low.
