Research Abstract |
Religious Taoism in China has more than two thousand years history and still has deep influence on Chinese peaples' way of life yet. So it is very important to grasp the present condition and situation of religious Taoism in whole Chinese society. We have researched into these problems in mainland-China for three yeares since 1992. 1992, we chiefly researched Taoism in the northern part of Chang-jiang river, that is, Bei-jing, Tien-jing, Liao-ning, Shan-dong, He-nang, Hu-bei and Jiang-su provinces. Taoism in these provinces mainly belongs to Quan-zhen sect since 12th century. 1993, we chiefly researched Taoism in the southern part of Chang-jiang river, that is, Zhe-jiang, Fu-jian, Guang-dong, Hu-nan, Jiang-xi and Shang-hai. Toism in these provinces mainly belongs to Zhong-yi sect, another main sect of Taoism. Some Quan-zhen priests of Guang-dong province, therefore, influenced by Zhong-yi sect, have been married and living in their own homes. 1994, head investigator went to China alone and got Chinese cooperators' partnership, complemently researched Taoism in Shan-xi, Shan-dong and Jiang-xi provinces. At present, we are making summary of our research.
