Research Abstract |
This report aims to delve into staple importance of wooden tablets as historical materials unearthed from the various sites, emamining to combine tablets with their sites and situation of unearthing by archaeological excavation. From 1992-1993 of fiscal year, I surveyed material character of the tablets discovered at the site of Fujiware Palace, Heijo Palace, Nagaoka Palace and Naganobori copper mine in Yamaguchi Prefecture. 1 A mass of wooden tablets were excavated from the site of third Street in East Second Ward, which has been supposled to be th Prince Nagaya's court. I reckon it the new possessions in Heijo derived originally from the Prince Takechi's court in Asuka. Writing of tablets denote Prince Nagaya's mother, spouses, brothers, sisters, and children live there, holding patriarchal properties with their steward office. 2 We can find out two tablets to ask the charcoal from Grand Council to its warehouse office at the site of Nagaoka Palace. I understand ti was used to grind the offical copper seals at Grand Council. 3 The tablets found in Fujiwara Palace site record the contents both when Kiyomigahara Code and Taiho Code were in force. For example, it is considered character * for Kori stands for duration of Kiyomihara period and * for Kori duration of Taiho period. I still cannot deny the possiblilty of case using * in Kiyomihara period, because the names of local administration * for kuni in use prior to Taiho in Kiyomihara period. 4 Seventy-five tablets recovered from Naganobori site have proved for the first time, there was a copper finery running at the begining of eighth century by Ritsuryo State.
