Research Abstract |
A new measuring apparatus with an optical particle sensor was studied in order to diagnose the lubricating conditions of tribo-conponents at real-time. Following results were obtained. 1. Three types of laser beam particle sensor were constructed and their properties were tested in detail. The particle sensor using a selfoclens was found to be most useful. A circuit and data acquisition system which can measure the output signals of particle sensor was completed. 2. The properties of our developed apparatus were examined by the measurements of the glassbeads (20 mum and 40 mum in diameter) in water and of the severe wear particles of brass in lubricating oil. The reliability of our measuring system was confirmed. 3. The wear particles in lubricating oil in which was used in the wear tests of bearing metal (LBC3) were monitored at realtime using our measuring system. The variations of wear particles with sliding distance or contact load were found to correlate to those of wear loss. From these results, it is found that our developed optical particle sensor and apparatus is useful for lubrication diagnostics. The fruit of this study has reached our objective of research.
