The purpose of this study is to establish the effective use of the industrial waste materials. The authors have studied on the properties of concrete containing the industrial waste materials such as (1) slurry from ready mix concrete operations called concrete sludge, (2) wasted catalyst from oil refining operations and (3) diatomite.
Following experimental results were obtained ;
1. Concrete Sludge
(1) the fresh state of concrete was plastic and workable, although the viscousity slightly increased as the amount of sludge increased.
(2) except for the case that the water cement ratio was low such as 50% and the amount of sludge was over 5% by weight of cement, the unit water content and the drying shrinkage strain were scarcely affected by the amount of sludge.
(3) compressive strength did not decrease by adding the sludge into concrete.
2. Wasted Catalyst
compressive strength of hollow concrete blocks containing wasted catalyst did not decrease in the case that the amount of wasted catalyst was within 5% by weight of cement.
compressive strength of concrete containing diatomite did not decrease in the case that the amount of it was within 5% by weight of cement.
