Research Abstract

申請者は、昨年度に引き続き、米国ブルックヘブン国立研究所の相対論的重イオン加速器(RHIC)を用いたPHENIX実験に参加し、2004年度に取得された核子あたり重心系エネルギー200GeVの金・金衝突におけるJ/ψ粒子の収量測定に関する研究を行ってきた。今年度は、昨年度中にPHENIXのPreliminaryな結果として認められた申請者の研究結果を投稿論文とするための最終チェックを行った。全統計量を用いて、電子に対する各種検出器の応答の校正、ラン毎のチェックを行い、電子・陽電子の不変質量分布を算出し、バックグランドを詳細に検証する事でJ/ψを同定し、系統誤差も詳細に見積もった。不変生成断面積を算出するために、検出器の稼動領域や電子に対する検出効率からくるJ/ψ粒子に対するアクセプタンスを、モンテカルロシミュレーションを用いて評価し、昨年度の地点では不十分だった運動量分解能による Smearing の効果やJ/ψが電子対と光子に変換する効果も考慮し、詳細に評価した。
申請者が算出したJ/ψ粒子の不変生成断面積の中心衝突度依存性はPHENIX実験の最終結果として投稿論文に纏められた。得られたJ/ψ収量の中心衝突度依存性から、J/ψ粒子は金・金中心衝突では陽子・陽子衝突から予想される収量の約1/4程度まで抑制されている事が分かった。申請者はJ/ψ収量抑制のモデルを構築し、J/ψはクォーク物質中でカラー遮蔽効果により溶解し、溶解温度はクォーク物質への転移を起こす2.1倍の温度である事を突き止めた。これは最近行われている格子QCD計算といい一致を見ている。この研究は実験結果を通じてJ/ψの溶解温度を算出した最初の結果となり、J/ψがクォーク物質の温度計として有効利用できる可能性を実証した最初の例である。実データの解析やモデル計算に関する一連の研究結果は申請者の博士論文として纏められた。
