This research project was carried out in 1993 and 1994 and the following results are obtained.
(1)Design and theoretical analysis of sensor-element
In order to simultaneously detect the position vector and the unit normal vector of a measured point in non-contact, a sensor-element which has one emitting optical fiber with micro collimator lens and eight receiving optical fibers was proposed. And its characteristics and performance were clarified by theoretical analysis.
(2)Development of the probe
In order to avoid the shadow effect, a probe which is consists of the thirteen sensor-elements is designed. And, in this project, a probe with the five sensor-elements was developed.
(3)Construction of automatic calibration system
An automatic calibration system for the developed probe was constructed by controlling a NC index and a three coordinates measuring machine by an external computer.
(4)Development of data acquisition system and data processing system
The data acquisition system which dynamically selects a sensor-element to project a beam from the emitting fiber and feeds into signals obtained from receiving fibers was developed. In addition, the data processing system which recognizes the position vector and the unit normal vector of a measured point from acquired data.
(5)Development of autonomous measurement system
The measurement system which autonomously measure an unknown model is developed by combining the developed probe, the data acquisition system, the data processing system, and a three coordinate measuring machine.
(6)Development of computer model constructing system
A basic system which recognizes surfaces (flat plane, cylinder, sphere, circular cone, circular ring, and sculptured surface) forming a physical model and construct the shape as computer model is developed.
