Research Abstract |
We developed an easy method for calculation of daily energy expenditure (DEE) and daily activity index (chi) for the Japanese general public. This factorial method included simple equations, which were Prepared by the multiple regression analysis of the relationship between chi and motion time (min) in sleeping, sitting, standing, walking and running in a total of 1580 person-days in 260 men and 320 women. We also designed filling up forms to calculate DEE,chi and the required time for the additional exercise depending on one's activity level1)3). When heart-rates (HR) of indivuals were analyzed on five motion groups, they were varied in sitting or standing in contrast to the stable and low rates in sleeping. We devised the equation for Metabolic Constant (MC : coefficient in our simple equation) in each motion group by using HR in sleeping as a reference value. Although pedometer is just useful for walking and running activity, if we have a pedometer which could detect the motions in sitting and standing, we can estimate DEE more precisely by using our formula in both motions. Therefore we suggested 0 company to produce a new type pedometer.
