Research Abstract

Cytogenetical study of lobster species of Crustaceans were examined. Six species of Panulirus japonicus, P.marginatus, P.homarus, P.longipes, Jasus edwardsii and J.lalandii collected from Japan (P.j.), Hawaii, U.S.A.(P.M.), Indonesia (P.m., P.l.), New Zealand (J.e.) and South Africa (J.l.) were used for the present study. Diploid chromosome numbers of these species were 2n=112 (P.j.), 118 (P.m.), 150 (P.h.), 110 (P.l.), 142 (J.e.) and 136 (J.l.), respectively. Karyo-types of these were 38M+16SM+18ST+42A (P.j.), 88M+14SM+16A (P.m.), 64M+20SM+34ST+32A (P.h.), 38M+16SM+8ST+48A (P.l.), 50M+36SM+4ST+52A (J.e.) and 100M+14ST+22A (J.l.).
Species specificities in the diploid chromosome numbers and the karyotypes of these six spiny lobster species were clearly identified. The diploid chromosome numbers in three species of Panulirus were in one-hundred and tenes but two species of Jasus were in one-hundred and thirties. The diploid chromosome number of P.homarus was showed large different with other species. First record of Ag-NOR's was found in the three arms on metacentric pairs of P.japonicus.
These cytogenetical fundamental characteristics of six lobster species seems to useful results for biological and fisheries researches for breeding and classification.
