Research Abstract |
The final purpose of this research is to establish a standard for diagnosis of TMJ sound. TMJ clicking patients were investigated by using a jaw function analyzing system. The results were as follows. 1.Clickings were classified into two types, the first one is the type which clicking occurred at the constant condylar position, the other at the various positions. 2.There was a correlation between the condylar translation velocity and the magnitude of TMJ sound (peak sound pressure level). 3.According as peak sound pressure level increased, mean power frequency sifted higher range in almost patients. 4.Among the diagnostic parameters on the six degrees of freedom jaw movement, the velocity and acceleration parameter had high diagnostic value for clicking. The correlation between intercuspal position-retruded contact position distances (ICP-RCP distances) and condylar positions in TMJ tomography were studied in 100 TMD patients. Results were as follows. 1.The average of ICP-RCP distance of TMD patients was 0.34mm (normal subject 0.9mm). 2.Shorter ICP-RCP distances tended to coincide with posterior condylar displacement. Finally, six degrees of freedom jaw movement data, acoustic analysis of TMJ sound, electromyogram, occlusal diagnosis, TMJ image of MRI or Tomography, chinical sign and symptom should by estimated totally to establish a good standard for TMJ sound diagnosis.
