Research Abstract |
Expression of the protooncogenes c-myc and c-ras were detected in the nuclei and cytoplasm of the mouse renal tubules after a single dose of streptozocin, respectively. But the expression differed considerably by the mice treated and further study is warranted. The protooncogenes were expressed in the atypical cyst four months after the treatment and in some of the cystopapillary tumors. Increased proliferative activity was noted three months or later after the treatment in the atypical cyst by immunohistochemically detected S-phase cells or proliferating cell nuclear antigen. The activity increased sequentially during carcinogenesis. Atypical cyst of the kidney is thought to be an origin of the papillary tumor in this carcinogenesis model.Whether the solid tumor originates from these lesions is unclear in this study. The atypical cyst seems to play an important role in the development of the subsequent renal tumor.
