The purpose of this research project concerning the postwar Japanese political parties is to clarify the process of each establishment and transition. Especially, we have focused on the systems and policies of the parties before the establishment of the LDP (Liberal Democratic Party). Literature materials concernning those parties have been inadequate due to the social chaos after the war and frequent organizations and dissolutions. We have also analyzed the systems and policies of new political parties establishd through the recent political realignment. Last year (1994), we had generally organized the histories of several postwar parties, and had analyzed the systems and policies of the Japan Liberal Party, the Democratic Liberal Party and the Liberal Party.
This year, firstly, we have gathered and organized materials on the histories, personnels, systems and policies of the Japan Liberal Party, the Japan Progressive Party, the Democratic Liberal Party and the National Democratic Part
y, and have analyzed them using those materials including hearing from the persons concerned to those parties, which have been collected by the head investigator.
The results were released in order in HOKURIKU HOUGAKU (2-1 to 3-4) to clarify the transitional process of the personnels and policies synchlonizing with the restructions of those parties and the background at each time. Secondly, we have gatherd and organized materials on the new political parties (New Frontier Party, New Party Sakigake, etc.) which were established by the recent political realign ment, regarding their systems (execution, dicision, local organization, etc.) and their executive posts personnels. At the same time, we have considered the systems and personnel changes of the LDP,Social Democratic Party and Japan Communist Party.
We will continue this project by organizing the materials concerning the systems and policies of the Japan Democratic Party, which were the main parties before the LDP,and will analyze the trasitions of policy of the post-1955 regime parties. Less
