Research Abstract |
This research is to investigate the effect of company fringe benefits on working women. One hundred companies in IIyogo prefecture were selected by 2-stage sampling, industry and size. Thirty-eight companines agreed to participate in the research. The total of 1,009 questionnaires were distributed and 752 useful questionnaires were retuRned (return rate is 74.5%). The majority of women who participated in this research are young, average age is 26.9 years old with college education. Sixty-seven percent of their jobs are clerk in manufacturing industry and only 5.9% of them occupy managerial position. The average annual income is 2,580,000 yen. Seventy-seven percent of them have no job mobility experience. The average size of the company is 2,986 employees. Seventy-three percent of them have some qualifications. 9.2 hours, the average working days per month is 20.9 days. Thus, it seems that 2-day off system is well practiced at most companies. The average overtime per week is 2.6 hours whichi is not too much. The average years of working is 5.3 years. The most often answered fringe benefits are, pension, bonus and paid leave system. The relationship between total number of fringe benefits and satisfaction, intention of working, and life-course was analized and it was found that the more fringe benefits companies have, the higher the level of satisfaction, the longer the intention of working, and the more women select the life-course which is to quit the job when they marry or have their first babies, stay home for a while to take care of infants, then they go back to work or to continue working without quitting. Due to the long-lasting economic depression, many companies tend to deduct the expenses of fringe benefits, but company's fringe benefits influence the selection of a company or intention of working to a great extent.
