Research Abstract |
This Reserch consists of three sections. In the first section, a description is estimation of the number of teachers employed in elementary and junior high school, high school. Recent trends in teacher education in universities and colleges of teacher education is under the impact of decreasing number of school-aged children. One result is that many faculties of education are now restructuring and moving away from teacher training. In the second section, two rival models are examined. One is labor market model (rational choice model) and the other is the institutional model which was developed by the American Sociologist J.Meyer. The reason for introducing these two models is that a different reaction is expected among the groups of new entrants because of the different distributions of reservation wages, male and females, edutation vs.non-edutation faculty and college leavers. In the third section, using the labor market model, we analyze the flow of new entrants to teaching. After a stasistical description of the main effects, we present a summary of the results of the regression analysis, whth empirical estimates of supply elasticities with respect to relative sararyies and number of pupils.
