Research Abstract |
According to preliminary estimates, Japanese electronic corporations increased their overseas investments in East Asia to $2.467 billion in 1994, up from $1.376 billion in 1993. Their overseas operations in East Asia after 1993 have the following four characteristics. Firstly, not only the main mass products but also high value-added products have been transferred to the East Asia. Secondly, international procurements included reverse import, local procurement and import of electronic parts from East Asia have increased rapidly. Thirdly design and development of products have began in East Asia. Finally their markets have been expanded in local and Japan. Our considerations give a top priority in the second characteristic. For, the increase of international procurements of set - makers has made electronic parts maker expand in East Asia, especially China and Malaysia. The operations of Japanese electronic corporations in East Asia have promoted to spread ME technology and to grow economies in those area. Nevertheless it must be noted that their operations in East Asia have an increasingly impact on YAMAGATA Prefecture, HITACHI City, NAGANO Prefecture, MORIGUCHI City and KADOMA City where their economies have depended on electronic industries.
