Research Abstract

現代の天文学における大きな課題の一つは、宇宙における大規模構造の形成の原因を解明することにある。我々はその大きな課題に赤外線天文衛星「あかり」を活用して、その謎の解明に挑んだ。「あかり」打ち上げ前には、数値シミュレーションにより、「あかり」の観測戦略を検討し、打ち上げ後は、そのデータ解析活動において、中心的な役割を果たしてきた。宇宙における大規模構造の形成の原因の情報は、積分された形でCosmic Infrared Backgroundの中に埋もれている。我々は、赤外線天文衛星「あかり」のデータを解析し、「あかり」の優れた空間分解能により、Cosmic Infrared Backgroundのかなりを点源として分離できることを示した(Jeong, et. al.2007)。さらに、「あかり」の多色サーベイを用いることにより、さまざまなタイプの銀河を抽出し、銀河の進化を観測的に追うと同時に、極めて珍しい種族の銀河も抽出できることを、数値シミュレーションにより明らかにした(Pearson & Jeong, et. al.2007)。さらに、「あかり」のデータ解析、観測に関して、多くの共同研究を行った。それには、小マゼラン雲において、初めて中間赤外線で超新星残骸を検出(Koo, et. al.2007)、過去の宇宙における星形成史を「あかり」遠赤外線による観測から解明(Matsuura, et. al.2007)、さらに中間赤外線15μmで検出された天体と光学観測との同定(Matsuhara, et. al.2007)など、多くの研究論文が含まれている。
