Research Abstract

(i)イスア堆積岩中のタングステン同位体異常の再評価。
イスアの38億年前の堆積岩試料(Schoenbergらの試料を含む)を分析した結果、それらの試料には分析誤差を超えるような同位体異常は見られないことが、明らかになった。この結果は、イスア堆積岩にクロム同位体異常が見られないことと、調和的であり、またイスア堆積岩中に限石物質が混入していることとは、非調和的である。
(ii)地球ケイ酸塩部におけるタングステン同位体不均質性の評価(^<142>Nd/^<144>Nd同位体組成との相関性)これまでに、^<142>Nd/^<144>Ndが、他の多くの地球岩石試料より高いことが報告されている岩石試料について、タングステン同位体分析を行ってきた。その結果、それらの岩石には、タングステン同位体異常がみられないこと(^<142>Nd/^<144>Nd同位体組成の不均質とは相関がないこと)が明らかになった。この結果は、それらの岩石試料(^<142>Nd/^<144>Ndが他の多くの岩石試料より高い岩石試料)の余分に高い^<142>Nd/^<144>Ndは、<45億年(182Hfが消滅した後)に起こった初期地殻の形成を反映していることを示す。また、既に^<142>Nd/^<144>Ndが報告されている試料のタングステン同位体分析をする一方で、地球マントル内部においてNd同位体組成がどの程度不均質かを調べる目的のもと、モナザイト鉱物の局所Nd同位体分析法の開発を行ってきた。モナザイト鉱物は、Ndを主要元素として含み、一粒でU-Pb年代測定が可能である。この鉱物について、局所Nd同位体分析が可能になると、様々なテクトニックセッティングのモナザイトのNd同位体組成を効率良く調べることができるようになるため、より幅広く地球マントル内部における、Nd同位体組成の不均質を精査できるようになる。
