Research Abstract |
This is an investigation of cariostatic effects and economical effects as the results of fluoride (Miranol^<(R)>) mouthrinsing on school children for 6 years. Five schools were selected for this study. We classified them into three groups : One of them 216 children at large scale school, the other 315 children at two middle scale schools comprised the fouoride group and the other 258 children at two middle schools were in the control group. A flouride mouthrinsing with a solution on 250ppmF^- (pH5.0) was performed five times a week for 6 years. The control group did only brushing after lunch. The caries The two fluoride groups indicated a significant difference (p<0.01) in cariostatic effects from the control group. Another siginificant difference in cariostatic effect was not recognized between fluoride groups. DMFS index showed the amount of cariostatic effects, saying, in fluoride groups the same effects as DMFT index. There was a difference between the costs in N group and A group and between in N group and B・C group. The benefit was A group 903 yen, B・C group 919 yen. Cost-benefit ratio showed 1 : 1.15, and 1 : 1.17. Cost-effectiveness ratio was expressed by necessary expense in order to save a tooth surface and was 3,019yen in A group, 2,707 yen in B・C group. It showed that it was set free from the pain of a tooth and the fear of the treatment, and this thing was accepted to be useful for an infant. As for the fluoride mouthrinsing, the catiostatic effects and economy effects were good, and school dental health programs were recognized necessary to enforce introduction broadly in future by the method superior in public health.
