Research Abstract

申請者の所属する研究室ではこれまでにマクロスケールの測定を行い、強誘電体表面に絶縁体にも関わらず本質的に電荷層(表面電荷層)が存在することを示しており、本研究では表面電荷層をナノスケールで定量化し、発現機構の解明を目的としている。具体的には、その第一歩である分域構造の解明に主眼を置いている。
強誘電体とは外部電場のない状況でも自発的に電気分極を維持できる物質であり、電気分極が同一方向に揃う分域という構造を作る。この分域構造は強誘電体の基礎物性であり、これをナノスケールで調べることは、他の強誘電体物性を解明する上で重要である。、昨年度までにナノスケールにおける測定手法として、AFM(原子間力顕微鏡)、分域を直接測定できる圧電AFM、表面電位を測定できるSKPMの測定環境と技術を用いた実際の測定プロセスの確立を行った。さらに、原理的物性の解明のために原子レベルでの表面の平坦・清浄・高結晶性化技術を確立し、実際にそのような表面において原理的な強誘電体の分域観察に成功していた。本年度は本質的強誘電体分域の定量測定を行った。具体的には分域表面の電位を定量的にナノスケールで測定し、従来の理論では説明できない現象を見出した。本質的分域の実験的研究も定量的な電位測定も世界で始めてのものであり、11th International Meeting on Ferroelectricity(中国)で報告した。
