Research Abstract

本研究は平成2-12年度に行われた特定領域研究「ゲノムサイエンス」の研究成果をまとめ、公表し、我が国のゲノム解析計画を新段階へと発展させることを目指すものである。そこでは「ヒトゲノムの構造解析」、「ゲノムの機能解析」、「ゲノムの生物知識情報」の3項目を中心に各々に成果を取りまとめ、公開シンポジウムなどを通して社会にゲノム研究の現状、意義と今後の展望を示すことを目標とした。
研究成果の報告書は、既に平成12年度の研究成果報告と共に5年間のまとめを合わせて研究成果報告書として世に出したので、今年度は公開シンポジウムに焦点をあてて研究成果を社会に公開することとした。公開シンポジウムは日本科学未来館の協力のもと、関東一円の中高生を中心に若者世代を対象として行われ、約300名が参加した。「ゲノムから見たヒト」、「ゲノム科学の医学への応用」、「ゲノムから見た発生分化」などをテマとした。講演と共にパネル討論会も開催した。また未来館長の毛利衛氏の挨拶も頂いた。
この公開シンポジウムの企画は文科省ヒトゲノム計画の中核となる本研究班の班会議で決定されたが、その内容は、我が国のバイオサイエンス全般、特に多くの国民の健康に直接かかわる疾患の医学研究の発展にとっても重要なものであり、その社会的意義、必要性、緊急性はきわめて大きいと言える。
