Research Abstract |
The main object of this research is to develop a basic system of the optical telescope array with wide field of view. This telescope array can monitor wide field of sky on the ground continuously. Therefore, this system can detect the transient objects whose appearance are not predictable in general. We have to develop three items in order to realize this system as follows ; that is, (1) to develop an optical telescope with wide field of view, (2) to develop a CCD with large detection area as a forcal plane detector and (3) to develop the software for processing mass imaging data. This limited grant is to develop an optical telescope with wide field of view, while we used only conventional CCD and software. We have develop the refractive optical telescope with a field of 5 degrees and 20 cm in diameter. Such wide field of telescope has not been realized so far. We have done basic tests of this telescope firstly in the laboratory and secondary in the fields on Mt.Yatsugatake. We observed

an open cluster, M45 (or "Subaru"). We detected a 12 magnitude star with a precision of 0.1 magnitude in 10 second exposure time. The noise level corresponded to 60e, but now it has been improved to be 30e. Any sky image can be taken without mechanical moving system, but the sky image on the focal plane can be followed with electronics system of CCD.The image within 5 degrees are lake clearly with a precision of a few arc seconds. We have developed a driving system with TDI in the CCD driving system. Thus we could take a clear image in the fields without moving system for the telescope. The present optical telescope has a new system. Therefore we have proposed a patent for general usage. if we make a telescope array consisting of 100 telescopes or more in future, we can monitor the sky of one steradian. Although we have achieved the main object to be developed, we have to develop other two items for futute study ; that is, (1) CCD with a wide field of view and (2) software for processing mass imaging data.
