| Research Abstract |
The style of multi family housing was originally introduced to Japan from Europe about 70 years ago. Though the Japanese multi family housing has achieved remarkable progress in last half century, regional characteristics at each location in Japan have not been reflected to the planning. This makes a clear contrast with traditional Japanese detached houses which have been formed according to the regional characteristics as climate, history, industry, and life style at each location. The goal of this study is to investigate what the Japanese-style apartments should be in the age when increasing aparments are planned and built in urban area. Comparative studies were performed betwwn apartment planning in England, France, Italy, USA. The regional characteristics of Hokkaido, Okinawa, Kyoto, Fukuyama were analyzed using statistics.
