The EEG was measured to clarigy the change of consciousness during fasting among the athletes of weight-class events. The fasting condition was planned as twenty-four-hour inhibition of food intake.
The subjects were five male healthy students aged from 22 to 27. Before and after fasting, EEG,body weight, POMS,oxygen uptake during exercise, heart rate, respiration rate blood pressure and so on were measured.
Significant changes before and after fasting were as follows : body weight decreased, fatigue scale and confusion scale of POMS decreased, heart rate and respiration rate during exercise increased.
In the case of EEG,aipha waves increased and theta waves decreased. This phenomenon suggested that the subjects were in the state of relaxation, and the level of arousal went up after fasting. These kinds of consciousness change would be beneficial for athletes of weight-class events.
