Research Abstract |
This project was planned to compile a catalog of prehistoric Micronesian artifacts housed in various institutions in Japan.These were brought in from Micronesia during the period when Japan mandated Micronesia between WWI and WWII.A number of artifacts were housed mainly in Tokyo University Museum and in the National Museum of Ethnology.A research of locating artifacts, any information associated with these artifacts, taking drawing and photograph was carried out mainly in these institutions.A totalof 413 artifacts were selected for this project and put into a catalog Among the artifacts, a number of excavated shell artifacts from the Nanmadol site on Pohnpei and from the Lele site on Kosrae were of significance All the data was put into a computor catalog software, Filemaker Pro and was printed for a bound copy.the catalog was made in English and is ready for distribution
