Herpes simplex virus : Herpessimplex virus type2 (HSV2) strains (10 strains) were isolated from genital herpes in Okinawa Among them, K1, K2 and K3 strains and standard laboratory strain, SAV,were inoculated intraperitoneally into BALB/cN and C57BL/6N mice. The myelitis was clearly observed in C57BL/6M mice. Within 24 hours before death, the mice showed urinary and rectal incontinence observed in C57BL/6N mice. within 24 hours before death, the mice showed urinary and rectal incontinence and paraplegia of the hind legs. Randomly distributed, severe necrosis was demonstrated in the spinal cord, mainly at the lower cord. In BALB/cN mice the clinical symptoms were not clearly observed, as the mice died shortly after viral inoculation. Although spinal cord necrosis was more prominent in C57BL/6N mice than BALB/cN mice, brain necrosis was only found later, and not in former. In the brain, however, the virus was demonstrated by both PCR and immunohistochemistry. The weakest virulent strain K
3, did not cause spinal cord necrosis, and no animals died. Experimental myelitis depended on both viral strain and also mouse strain.
Human herpesvirus type 8 (Kaposi sarcoma associated herpesvirus, KSHV) : PCR analysis of 93 cases of benign and malignant vascular lesions including 5 cases of Kaposi sarcoma was performed. All 5 cases of Kaposi sarcoma and one of granuloma pyogenicum were positive for KSHV.But other vascular lesions, 6 spindle cell hemangioendotheliomas, 1 kaposi form hemangioendothelioma, 8 angiosarcomas, 46 hemangiomas, 7 glomus tumors and 19 pyogenic granulomas were negative for KSHV.Sequence analysis of KSHV from Okinawa revealed that it was classified into type C.
EBV : PCR and in situ hybridization analysis of EBV on oral squamous cell carcinomas were perfomed. EBV DNA was mainly demonstrated on the infiltrated lymphocytes.
現在論文として投稿中であるが、沖縄県の口腔扁平上皮癌にはPCR法で高頻度にEBVが検出される。しかし、扁平上皮癌細胞には検出頻度は低く、浸潤リンパ球にin situ hybridization法で認められた。
