Research Abstract

カーボンナノチューブ内部の空間は、その特異性のため、現在までにフラーレンや金属内包フラーレンなどを始め、多くの種類の機能性分子や物質が内包されてきた。その結果、カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)の電子・磁気物性をこの方法で変化させることができるようになった。一方で、イオン液体は、液体と固体の双方の特性を合わせ待つ、特異な液体として近年、研究が急速に進んでいる。
本研究では、カーボンナノチューブ、特に、単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWNT)と2層カーボンナノチューブ(DWNT)の内部に典型的なイオン液体(亜鉛含有のChZnCl_3)を高収率で内包させ、カーボンナノチューブ内部でのイオン液体の特異構造と相転移を、高分解能透過型電子顕微鏡(HRTEM)、フォトルミネッセンスやラマン分光を用いて解明した。
その結果、SWNT中のイオン液体ChZnCl_3は、温度によってその構造を刻々に変化させることが分かった。室温では、通常、アモルファス状の構造をもつが、温度上昇と共に構造は、単一チェイン構造→二重らせん構造→ランダムチューブ構造へと変化することを突き止めた。これらの構造は、バルクのイオン液体ChZnCl_3では内構造であり、SWNT内部での極めて特異な構造である。さらに、CNT中のイオン液体の充填度によって、CNTはホールドープから電子ドープへと急激に変化することも、電界効果型トランジスタ(FET)による電子物性評価により解明された。
以上の結果は、当初、研究計画で計画されたものより多くの情報と成果であり。研究目的以上の貴重な成果をもたらした。
