Research Abstract |
A great deal of interest has been generated concerning the topic of a boundary or transitional state between normal aging and dementia. This condition has received several descriptors including mild cognitive impairment (MCI), incipient dementia, and isolated memory impairment. People with an MCI are also becoming of interest for treatment trials. So we have executed the brain activation countermeasure for residents in a rural area of Shimane prefecture, and have been screening and have examined the efficiency of the countermeasure. 1)It was clarified that the continuation execution of the brain activation countermeasure could improve the condition of dementia in comparison with the condition before the countermeasure performed. Especially, it was found that the rise of the "Kana-hiroi" examination average score reached the peak in case of the continuation of the countermeasure during two years. 2)The "Kana-hiroi" examination average scores after the brain activation countermeasure were higher than those scores before the countermeasure, with all categories for sex and age distinction except the category for the male of 60's age. 3)It was confirmed that there was a positive proportion between the score of "Kana-hiroi" examination and that of MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) in this survey (the value of correlation coefficient is 0.6868).
