Research Abstract |
We have been developing a quasi-velocity-matched (QVM) electro-optic (EO) modulator, which can generate teraherz sidebands, using periodic domain inversion of an electro-optic crystal. Recently, we proposed the new BO deflector and frequency shifter utilizing traveling phase grating induced by slant-crossing the direction of QVM-domain inversion and that of light propagation (Jpn patent No. 2802366). In this research, we have developed this newly proposed BO deflector and frequency shifter using a LiTaO_3 EO crystal. As results, functions of deflection and frequency shift have been confirmed experimentally at very high frequency 16GHz, which can never obtained by an acousto-optic (AO) deflector. In addition, 48GHz unidirectional deflection (the world fastest record), has been successfully carried out.
